current status (6 July 2008):
Was in the Netherlands a year, but now I've moved on to a US life.

I enjoyed 413 days as a resident of the Netherlands.
I've now been 1464 days back in the US.

Gentle Reader: The story of Downwind of Amsterdam has come to a close with the summary post "Bricks, Water, Peace". Thanks to all contributors and commentors. Be well.

The two most widely commented posts by far:
(1) One Night in Naarden Makes a Tired Man Mumble, (hallucinatory interview trip), and
(2) Rolling By, Beneath my Window (the moment my whole bicycle mania started).

Others often commented on for better or worse: Passing for Dutch, Keukenhof is Paradise, and the baffling Man, I don't 'Get' Zwarte Piet.

July 3 2005: After one year, I've closed DOA to further comments. Anyone moved to contact me is welcome to use the e-mail address at right. Thanks to all commentors.

Welcome to DOA

This is a short intro page to a longer "book" about my year in the Netherlands, and about all that I experienced while bicycling 4000 kilometers of the nation's entire perimeter. You may sample the selected posts at the top of this page, or you may want to click through a month or two of the posts via the right side of this page...

OR click here if you're up for downloading The Whole Story on one monster page. You can begin reading right away, but downloading all the photographs (in background) may take 2-10 minutes through a broadband connection, perhaps 2 hours by dial-up (happily, you only have to do it once).

May this blog bring you the pleasure it has brought me.
